Brno and the surrounding areas
Brno is the commercial and social centre of the economically important region of South Moravia. Owing to its advantageous location in the southeast part of the Czech Republic and close to the Austrian and Slovakian borders, the city has always been a strategic crossroads in Europe. With a population of 380,000, Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic and a trade fair centre of Central Europe – every year fifty international fairs and exhibitions take place here. The city is also the cultural centre of the region with its countless theatres, museums, cinemas, and shops including accompanying services, and a number of social and sports events. The region has a unique position thanks to a perfect blend of all the possibilities of a big city and many tourist destinations in its vicinity.

Villa Tugendhat
Perhaps the loveliest view of the Brno panorama can be gotten from Černopolní Street. Here stands one of the most important buildings of Functionalistic architecture – the Villa Tugendhat. The Villa Tugendhat has preserved its original look to this day and, for its originality, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Brno Dam
A popular resort for Brno citizens, offering various water sports and fishing. During the season there regular boat transport between Brno and Veverská Bítýška. On the right bank of the reservoir there is Veveří Castle.
The Zoological Garden of Brno City
The Brno Zoological Garden first opened at the end of the summer of 1953 at Monk’s Mountain (Mniší hora) in Brno – Bystrc. It has almost a thousand species, predominantly exotic ones, living on its 24 acres. One of its main attractions includes new, highly modern expositions. The newest exposition, opened at the end of the summer 2003, is an exhibit of wolves and the Canadian beaver with a replica of an Indian hut with a totem pole.
Pernštejn Castle
Pernštejn is one of the most visited Moravian castles, attracting tourists from afar. This is no wonder, since it has been towering on a rock above the town of Nedvědice for almost eight centuries and for all this time it has never been conquered. Seeing such a stronghold is a must.
